Bunraku : classic puppet theatre
A UNESCO World Intangible Heritage (proclaimed in 2003)

The puppets (and the puppeteers, who we can see on the stage, but their heads and bodies are covered with black costumes) perform the dramas with the narrators(singers) and shamisen(Japanese three-stringed instrument) players.

Kobo-san: Fascinating flea market at Toji temple!

Antique tabako-bon:smoking set at the tea ceremony.
the tray, tabacco container and cover of hi-ire(celadon porcelain container for the charcoal to light it), the material of these three looks like bamboo, but they are all copper wares!

Kobo-san is the biggest flea market in Kyoto, it is held at Toji temple on 21st every month.
My grandma loved Kobo-san, she often took me to there.
Since I was small I've enjoyed visiting and looking for something fabulous and very good buy.
My partner also loves good and old things, but not expensive ones.
This copper tabako-bon; a smoking set is around 70 years old.
He found this at today's Kobo-san, he looked so proud of himself with the harvest, when he came back home!

Setsubun : the beginning of Spring

We have the Setsubun rituals on February 3rd, that means the division of winter and spring; Feb. 3rd is the last day of the winter and Feb. 4th, that is called Risshun, is the first day of the spring by the Japanese lunar calendar.

Today we visited Yoshida Shrine to pray for the new spring.
wishing good health and happiness, we had 'fuku-mame'(soy beans)!

Bunraku is the classic Japanese puppet theater.

One of my friends is the shamisen player.
My partner and I visited a bunraku performance held in Kyoto the other day. It was really good, elegant, chic and sometimes spectacular!
